Reedy River Fishing Report March 14th

The Reedy River in downtown Greenville, SC, is one of my favorite little sneaky areas to get away and catch a few fish. I took Travelers Rest Here's son Otto on the Reedy River for an afternoon fishing trip this week. As I arrived at the river, I realized that plan A wouldn't work. I haven't been able to get out on the Reedy since Hurricane Helene came through in October, and the spots that are usually great this time of year have changed drastically. Sand off the banks had filled the deep holes, and the cover the bass usually related to was gone. Luckily, my plan B spots ended up being full of willing fish. The water was slightly off-color from the rain two days prior, and the wind started kicking up a little bit of a ripple on the water, so sight-fishing was out of the question. It was a gorgeous Spring day with air temperatures in the 70’s and bright sun. It would have been a great day to remember my sunscreen! We found the bass relating to cover and deeper spots, with ned rigs and shakey head worms being the lures of the day. Plenty of sunfish were willing to chase down a Rebel Craw crankbait. We even found a very nice, fat Reedy River Largemouth bass in the mix. Otto had a keen eye for likely spots and found several bass in areas that I had not had luck at previously. It helped that he is one heck of a fisherman!
